How humans obtain and “make” usable gold

Humans don’t create gold atoms—we extract and refine it:

Step 1: Mining
Gold is found in rocks, rivers, or underground ore
Miners dig it up or collect gold-bearing sand
Step 2: Crushing & grinding
Rock is crushed into fine powder to release tiny gold particles
Step 3: Separation

Common methods:

Panning (water separation, old method)
Sluicing (water channels trap heavy gold)
Cyanide process (modern industrial extraction)
Mercury method (older, now restricted in many places due to toxicity)
Step 4: Smelting
Gold concentrate is heated in a furnace
Impurities are removed
Pure gold is formed into bars (called bullion)
Step 5: Refining
Further purification can reach 99.9% pure gold
