“The Science of Barrel Racing – Part #3 – Where Does the Turn Come From.” When we begin to delve deeper into barrel racing, we find that it is more than just 3 barrels set in a cloverleaf pattern that we run our horses through. In order to be most effective in doing this and doing it faster than anyone else, we must understand more about all the different parts which combine to make an optimal pattern. In our previous teaching on speed we looked at one of the parts, what is speed in relation to barrel racing. In this teaching, Lynn begins looking at the turn (around each barrel) and how the horse and rider position themselves to make the turn. In 40+ years of teaching barrel racing, we have encountered many, many wrong ideas about the “turn’. We begin to show how to recognize good techniques and apply them to your routine.
