Your Team Isn’t Resisting Change. They Feel Threatened.

Most teams are not pushing back because they are lazy or difficult.

They are reacting to threat.

That is a very different problem.

Farah Harris said something in this conversation that I think a lot of founders miss. When people resist a new process, a new tool, a new policy, or a new direction, it is often not because they are trying to be a pain.

It is because they do not feel safe yet.

They do not know what this means for their role.
They do not know if they will still be good at their job.
They do not know whether this change makes life easier or makes them look less competent.

And most leaders skip right past that.

They announce the change.
Give a quick explanation.
Then act surprised when the team is cold, skeptical, or checked out.

That is not just a change problem.
That is a communication problem.

If you want buy-in, lower the threat level.
Show people how this helps.
Show them what support looks like.
Show them what happens next.
Give them room to process.

People respond very differently when they feel considered.

A lot of what gets labeled as “resistance” is really just uncertainty plus poor rollout.

This clip is a good reminder that better leadership is often less about forcing change and more about helping people feel safe enough to move with it.
