The Opera Iara is based on a Brazilian well known legend of the Amazon.
Iara is the queen of the the Amazon river.
She is half fish half woman (Like a mermaid) and lives in her blue Palace
at the bottom of river.
When she sees men by the river side (in the evening), she sings like an angel.
Hunters like (Begiuchira) and fishermen hear her beautiful singing and
fall in love with Iara.
She seduces them and she promisses them eternal love and happyness.
She bring them into the river where they drown and die.
Iara is bad and sees these seducings and killings as a challenge.
