We all heard about GameStop stock when it went from $20 to $500 in February 2021. A new generation is putting money into the markets, but do they understand what is investing 2021? It is so easy to buy and sell stocks with the advent of trading apps for our smart phones, but what is the difference between trading and investing? How should one make these decisions? Are commissions the only factor to pay attention to?

The key to investing is realizing that you are in for the long haul. Investing is about the future and there really is no fast easy solution without taking on a lot of risk. Investing is not about trading while you’re waiting for a friend to pass the time. It’s strategic, it’s about participating in the long term growth of the economy and it’s about discipline. Understand how an investment works, and understand the risks associated with the investment. It’s about saving enough for your future so that you can live your life with enough to meet your living needs without worrying. Develop a plan and follow through on your plan. Be careful of investing in something trendy or because a celebrity has endorsed it. Speak with a professional. Remember past performance is not indicative of future returns.
