Handskit 9305D Improvements to Pots and Ammeter

This is a pretty rubbish video I made of upgrades I made to the Handskit 6305D. Sorry it's confusing and not well edited. Hopefully you can follow along.

I replaced the existing 270 degree pots controlling the power supply with ten turn pots so that the adjustment is finer. I also took out the existing amps display and replaced it with a far more precise ammeter.

The basic steps are:

- open the unit (being very careful of charged capacitors!)

- replace the existing single pole switch for the power supply side switch with a double pole switch

- take the knobs off the pots on the front panel and the panel behind the power supply display will be removable

- replace the existing pots with ten turn pots by de- and then re-soldering

- desolder the two displays. Dump the ammeter display. Build out the volts display so it is level with the top of the pots

- wire up the 5v input of the ammeter to the 9305D's USB supply, through the other side of the new double pole switch, so that it turns off when the power supply side switch is turned off.

- wire up the negative side output of the power supply through the shunt of the new ammeter, so that it can read the current being output

- build out the new ammeter so it is level with the top of the new pots and glue it where the old ammeter display was.

That's it.
I'm now pretty happy with the unit. From the factory, the pots are too coarse, and the ammeter too inaccurate. With the hacks described in this video, it's pretty good.

The replacement switch search "CE KCD1 Switch Rocker 4 Pin 15mm*21mm Red Black" but note the listings typically have four and two pin versions. You need the double pole single throw version ie four pin.
