Adıyaman is a province located in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey. Its administrative center is Adıyaman city.
The population of the province is 632,459 according to the 2021 data of Turkish Statistical Institute. 86.51% of this population lives in cities.[1] There is 1 university within the provincial borders; Adiyaman University. The surface area of the province is 7337 m². There are 85 people per km² in the province. (This number is 168 in the central district.) The altitude of the city center from sea level is 701 m.
According to TUIK data in 2020, there are 9 districts, 23 municipalities, 173 neighborhoods and 453 villages in these municipalities, together with the central district. A large part of Adıyaman province is located in the Southeastern Anatolia Region. Some of the districts of Çelikhan and Gerger in the north are located in the Eastern Anatolia Region, and some of the districts of Gölbaşı and Besni in the west are located in the Mediterranean Region. The size of the province is 7,644 km².
Adıyaman province where Adıyaman city is the center; It is bordered by Malatya in the north, Diyarbakır in the northeast, Şanlıurfa in the east and south, Gaziantep in the southwest and Kahramanmaraş in the west. Major mountains in the province; Akdag (2551 m), Dibek (2549 m), Tucak-Ulubaba (2530 m), Gorduk (2206 m), Nemrut (2150 m), Bozdag (1200 m) and Karadağ (1115 m). In the north of the province, the Malatya Mountains, which are the extension of the Taurus Mountains, are located. Towards the south, the heights decrease and plain areas are seen. Almost all of Çelikhan, Tut and Gerger districts are mountainous. The northern parts of the Central, Besni and Kahta districts are mountainous and the southern parts are plain. Samsat district has the lowest lands of the province. Important plains of the province; Kahta, Çakırhöyük (Keysun), İnekli and Pınarbaşı plains.
