Basil, mostly known as The Bulgar Slayer, was underage when he was supposed to succeed his father. His reign was immediately met with a lot of internal and external problems to deal with. At the time, Byzantium was in war with Bulgaria in the north and Fatimids in the south. On top of that, he had two rebellions led by army generals who threatened to overthrow him.

Thanks to the help of his allies, Basil II managed to beat the rebels, signed a peace treaty with Fatimids and turned his focus on the northern enemies. His most famous legacy lies in his crushing the Bulgarian army.

After capturing the majority of the enemy soldiers, Basil took their eyes out and make them walk home chained. Having beaten Bulgaria in such a vile way, he succeeded in conquering the whole of the Balkans.
