THE MARVELS | Marvel Studios | Captain Marvel 2

An upcoming American superhero film about three Marvel Comics heroines Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film will be the sequel to Captain Marvel (2019) as well as the TV series Ms. Marvel (2022), and the 33rd in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Nia Dacosta and written by Meghan McDonnell. Brie Larson returned to star, and Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris and Samuel L. Jackson also starred in the film.
Marvel Studios' plans for a sequel to the Captain Marvel movie were officially announced in July 2019. In January 2020, when it became known that work on the film had begun, it was also announced that McDonnell had joined the project and Larson would return. In August of that year, Dacosta became the director, and in December Vellani and Parris joined the cast. In mid-April 2021, pre-production began, and the film's title was announced in early May. Principal photography for the tape began in early August 2021, took place in Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Los Angeles and Italy, and wrapped up in mid-May 2022.

Development
Ahead of the release of Captain Marvel (2019), lead actress Brie Larson expressed interest in a sequel starring the character Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. Producer Kevin Feige has previously stated that he has plans to introduce Kamala to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after the release of Captain Marvel, as Kamala was inspired by Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel; Iman Vellani was later cast as Khan in the Disney+ streaming television series Ms. Marvel (2021). In March 2019, Feige said that Marvel Studios had some "pretty amazing" ideas for a sequel that could take place both in the 1990s period, which was the case in the first film, and in the present day. Lashana Lynch has expressed interest in reprising her role as Maria Rambeau, even if the sequel takes place in the present. At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019, Feige confirmed plans for a Captain Marvel sequel.
Preparations for the film began in February 2021 with Zave Ashton cast as the villain in the film. By that time, all of the Ms. Marvel scripts had been written and the Marvel crew could read them to find out Han's fate in the series, as well as allow Larson to make a cameo appearance in the finale. The filming period was supposed to start at the end of May, with the second team slated to begin filming in mid-April 2021 under the working title "Goat Rodeo" to capture aerial footage, address plan and green screen shots. In May, Marvel Studios announced the sequel's new title: Marvels.
Filming was expected to start on May 31, 2021 and began on August 10 at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and Longcross Studios in Longcross, Surrey, England. Sean Bobbitt acts as the cinematographer. During the filming period, Samuel L. Jackson announced that he would reprise his role as Nick Fury from previous MCU films while working on the film in London in pre-production on Secret Invasion.
In mid-June 2022, Jackson said he would return to London for reshoots in August after doing the same for Secret Invasion, and by the end of July, Marvel was ready to begin reshoots. In early August, filming took place in New York's Battery Park to capture the scenery for visual effects. Catherine Hedström became the film's editor. This is her second collaboration with Dakosta after Candyman.
