lymphoma where the word lymphoma itself says the meaning about it. where lymph means lymphatic tissue and the oma means mass together lymphoma means mass that is tumor in lymphatic tissue.

lymphoma is divided into two types
Hodgkin
Non hodgkin

The incidence of hodgkin lymphoma is lower as compared to non hodgkin lymphoma. Age disturbance in hodgkin lymphoma is bimodal disturbance, the meaning for bimodal is there are two peak in age incidence of hodgkin lymphoma age between 15 to 30 there is increase risk for hodgkin lymphoma and after age of 50 there is increase risk for hodgkin lymphoma. For non hodgkin lymphoma increase in age leads to increase of risk for non hodgkin lymphoma.

clinical symptoms.
Both sub types of lymphoma have same symptoms that painless lymphadenopathy and B symptoms (fever, night sweats and weight loss). Remember that most non hogkin lymphoma is asymptomatic and show symptoms when disease is in end stage.
even mass effect can be seen in lymphoma because growing lymph node can compress the organs around it.

Diagnosis
Lymph node biopsy, chest x-ray, CT scan of chest and abdomen, bone marrow biopsy is required.

VIP about Lymph node biopsy is hodgkin lymphoma shows reed-sternberg cells, which looks like owl eye.

staging.
Lymphoma is staged according to Ann arbour staging.
this staging is down by dividing lymph nodes of body into two by help of diaphragm.
stage 1- one cancer lymph node on one side of body.
stage 2- two or more lymph noes involve in same side of diaphragm.
stage 3- when both side of diaphragm lymph nodes are involved.
stage 4- Extra lymphatic spread.

Treatment.
Hodgkin lymphoma
stage 1 and 2 - radiotherapy.
stage 3 and 3- chemotherapy

A-Adriamycin
B-bleomycin
V-vinblastine
D-dacarbazine

Non hodgkin lymphoma.
chemotherapy is required because non hodgkin lymphoma is a aggressive.

C-Cyclophosphamide,
H-Hydroxydaunorubicin
o-Oncovin (vincristine)
P-Prednisone
