Iran's first election after mass protests: A test of public sentiment? | DW News
In Iran, voters are casting their ballots for members of parliament and a religious body called the Assembly of Experts.
The elections are a test of public sentiment toward Iran's establishment following huge demonstrations. Authorities are hoping for a big turnout, unlike the last parliamentary elections four years ago. That poll saw the lowest turnout since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Iran is in the middle of an economic crisis and has been wracked by protests.
For more on this, we talk to Sima Sabet, a journalist with a particular focus on Iran. She is a former anchor for Iran International TV, and she joins us from London.
And we talk to Ali Fathollah-Nejad, a German-Iranian political scientist who heads up the Center for Middle East and Global Order think tank in Berlin.
He is also author of the book "Iran in an Emerging New World Order".
