CATIA V5 for Beginners: Slotted Bracket & Symmetric Design - 16

Welcome to Tutorial 16 of our complete CATIA Training Course Exercises for Beginners!

If you are looking to improve your CATIA V5 part design skills, you are in the right place. Today, we are modeling a specialized Slotted Mounting Bracket, which is a fantastic exercise for learning how to transition between circular shapes and angled rectangular bodies.

The CAD Strategy in this video:
Notice how our default reference planes go exactly through the center of our part? Working symmetrically from the origin is a crucial industry standard! We will build the circular base, extrude the main body with its angled edges using Pad, and finally carve out the central mounting slot using the Pocket tool.

CATIA commands used in this exercise:
• Pad (to build the circular base and the main angled block)
• Pocket (to cleanly cut the central rectangular slot)
• Symmetric sketching (to keep our part perfectly centered on the planes)

👇 Question for the community: For those angled edges on the side of the bracket, do you draw the angle directly in your 2D sketch, or do you extrude a normal block first and use the 3D 'Chamfer' tool? Let's debate the best workflow below!
