Green Laning in The Lake District - Part 2 | Jeeps, a Jimny and a discovery do Parkamoor and more
We return for part two of our Lake District off road adventure in our Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon, exploring the green lanes in the south lakes area. We bring you along for the final two days of our green laning trip.
On Day 3 we are joined by Dan (The Northern Explorer) in his Land Rover Discovery, links to his Instagram and YouTube channel below. It’s the second day of our off-road exploring. We get to do some water crossings, we also do the famous Parkamoor green lane with stunning views over Coniston Water. After a few hours of fun we sadly say goodbye to half of our group, as they start to make their way home. Nonetheless we continue our adventures with Simon and Claire, and with Dan taking the lead. He showed us a couple of his favourite lanes in the area as well as the abandoned Hodge Close Quarry site. It’s one of many slate workings in the Tilberthwaite Valley, between Langdale and Coniston. Hodge Close Quarry is a massive excavation of light green coloured slate, sheer-sided and unfenced, with an original worked depth from ground level of about 100m (300 feet). The 150 feet deep face is a favourite with abseilers, while the 150 feet deep flooded workings which extend below the surface are popular with divers.
We finish our day by cooking up some nice dinner and relaxing by the campfire.
Day 3 was more of a sightseeing day for us. We packed up our camp for the last time at the Grizedale campsite and drove to Lake Windermere. We also managed to get the famous World’s Best Gingerbread from Grasmere’s famed Sarah Nelson’s gingerbread shop (which was delicious). With roadtrip snacks sorted we started to make our way back down South, heading home.
We hope you enjoyed part 2 of our Lake District trip, don’t forget to check out part 1 if you haven’t already. Come back soon for more adventure videos!
