Because of the Canadian only matchups in the North Division during the 2020-2021 shortened NHL season, Tim Stützle's second year in the NHL was his first opportunity to play against American NHL teams. Stützle started his sophomore year off slow with only 21 points in his first 40 games, but his play progressed leaps and bounds as he finished his remaining 39 games firing on all cylinders with 37 points. Early in the season the Senators were COVID-19 ridden, which left coach D.J. Smith no other choice but to try Stützle at centre for the first time. This change gave Stützle more of an opportunity to have the puck on his stick, which led to more clean defensive zone breakouts and offensive zone entry's - as demonstrated throughout this video.
