Network Camping EP1, Family Overland Staycation Ireland, where to camp? Discovery 3 & Roof Top Tent

‘Overland staycation’, is that an oxymoron? Maybe it is, but Ireland is small. A journey into Ireland is about expanding the hidden corners, not expanding on an endless horizon. What is certain is that if you plan to wild camp with a vehicle in Ireland it may not always be easy to answer that daily question; ‘where will we stay tonight?’

When traveling with young children that question needs reliable answers. Good answers to this question are hard to come by sometimes, after all the little hidden gems that the answer often will be are the treasured secrets of those who have already gone to the effort of travelling the road that will answer that question. This video is my staycationers answer. It’s working for me so far.

My trusty steed is a 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6. Upwards of 360,000km on the clock. It has never let me down yet. The tent is a 1.8m howling moon stargazer with the annex and side awning. Leaving no trace except tracks on this beach camp is given a head start primarily by a Thetford 365 porta potti. An ARB 47ltr fridge is fitted with a Traxide / optima dual battery system.

All footage is filmed on a Mavic 2 Zoom, a GoPro 9 (when it works) and an iPhone 12. Time lapses were recovered using ‘recoverit’ after GoPro said my SD card had an error and had to be formatted. Thank you Recoverit.com - it worked.
