LG G2 Touchscreen Sensitivity Problem with screen protectors

UPDATE: Since upgrading from Kitkat to marshmallow, the issue has disappeared for me - please let me know if this continues to be an issue for you after upgrading.

NEW SIMPLE TEST FOR THIS ISSUE (March 2016): as described below by +Tyler Durden - using a browser on your phone, display the image here http://i.imgur.com/7X0p8tJ.png - if your phone is affected by the same issue as in the video, your screen should lose all touch response as soon as that image is displayed. If your issues are caused by something else, you should be able to display the image without touch response being affected. (It will only be affected as long as the phone is not plugged in, and you are not holding it or touching it with your other hand at the same time.) To resolve the issue, pick up the phone (to temporarily restore touch), then back out of the screen which triggered the fault, then switch the screen off and on again.

News as of October 2014 - if your phone is affected by this screen protector issue, I have found a way to trigger the issue even without a screen protector installed - see below. This allowed me to demonstrate the problem to the LG service centre without using any third party product.

First they tried cleaning the contacts where the screen is attached to the phone, which improved response somewhat, but not entirely.
Then they reflashed the firmware, and finally they replaced the screen. None of this really improved things greatly, just a little - and with a screen protector on, it did not help the issue at all. So the phone was eventually replaced under warranty.

The replacement phone still isn't perfect (the Mobile Data screen is pretty much unusable with a screen protector on) but other than that, it's much better than the one in the video. I just hope it doesn't deteriorate with use - we'll see.

CONCLUSION: A small number of LG G2, G2 Mini and G3 phones are affected by this issue. IT CANNOT BE REPAIRED other than by replacing the whole phone.

HERE IS HOW TO TRIGGER THE ISSUE, EVEN WITHOUT A SCREEN PROTECTOR:

It would be helpful if you enable 'Show Touches' in Developer Options, like I did in the video.

Make sure the phone is UNplugged from power or PC, and place it flat on a table, so you will only be touching it with one finger. Also the phone should be in the usual portrait mode, not landscape.

Go to the Mobile Data screen (from Settings).

Tap around a bit in the grey bar just under the battery/clock icons. After a few seconds of tapping I usually lose touch response in the top right corner - and when that happens, I cannot pull down the Android status bar either (a useful test if you prefer not to enable Developer Options).

At its worst, this will persist even on other screens until the screen is turned off and on again. At its best, it will simply fix itself after a few seconds.

NOTE: As well as the G2, this issue also affects a small number of G2 Mini and G3 phones, and at least one G4 has been reported as well.

This video demonstrates an issue that affects the responsiveness/sensitivity of the touch screen on some LG phones, whenever a screen protector is installed (though some very thin plastic ones may not affect it) and the phone is NOT plugged in to power or to a PC.

The issue appears to be quite rare - apart from myself, so far (updated 8th May 2017) I've personally found about 49 other phones with the same issue (mainly through comment responses to this video) - which is that after installing a screen protector, the screen becomes less responsive to touch - ESPECIALLY IN THE TOP HALF OF THE SCREEN, AND MOST NOTICEABLY IN THE TOP RIGHT CORNER.

It's most prevalent when using the phone with one finger only, ie. when the phone is on a table or other flat surface, and you try to use it without holding it or touching it in any way, apart from the finger you use to operate the screen.

As soon as you touch another part of the phone at the same time, eg. hold it in your palm or just touch it with your other hand, the problem is significantly reduced or even eliminated. Is there perhaps some odd capacitance issue going on?

With the two different glass screen protectors and one plastic screen protector that I've tried (all of which I believe use a silicone-based adhesive) the problem becomes more evident after a few days, so I wonder if it may be caused, not so much by the protector itself, but possibly due to the silicone adhesive curing over time - but that's just a theory.
