STUNNING SUNRISE landings at Zurich Airport

05:50 AM local time at Zurich Airport. The airport is still closed as I set up my equipment on the new spotting hill at the west side of the airport. It's almost silent, only a few cars and singing birds are hearable. Then I hear the sound of an aircraft. As I look up I see an Edelweiss Air A340-300 overhead, inbound from Cape Town. It's supposed to be the first aircraft movement of this sunny Saturday. On the right hand downwind of RWY 34 I notice another aircraft. The silhouette looks like a B777-300ER. It will be the second airplane to land this morning. The airport opens its doors daily at 06:00 AM, and at 06:01 the Edelweiss A340-300 is cleared to land on RWY 34.
The early morning is one of my favorite day times to do plane spotting. It's a very unique ambience to experience an airport waking up, and the traffic is quite nice as well as a lot of heavy aircraft are inbound during these hours. Everything together doesn't hold me off to get up at 04:30 AM to capture these airplanes touching down right in front of me. And if you get a beautiful sunrise on top of it, it's even more exciting.
