How to Make Bug Experiments - They will Keep Running | Experiments with insects | Physics and Math.

In this bug experiments project, I build a Bug Wheel. This is very much like a Hamster Spinning Wheel, funny to see this common amusement for pet rodents. They will Keep Running! I actually had no idea if it would work when I started to build it. Insects have very small mass, so I knew I needed to keep the structure as light as possible. Their little bodies needed to overcome the mass of the cylinder.

For the first time on my channel, I do a voice over track that includes a few "How To" details. The razor blades are used to provide a minimal friction surface for the needle working as the axle.

This is not intended to be a step-by-step project by any means. This can be a fun project for kids, but i would suggest using something other than razor blades as bearings. I have not tested it, but I think aluminum foil may work by poking the needle through a few layers.

I also introduce a couple of vintage drafting tools that I dug out from storage. These are from back in the day when I used to do airbrush illustration work. The sheets of acetate are more than 20 years old as well. The swivel knife is no longer available. If I can find links to these tools at a later date, I will post them below.
