Roadtrip Checklist for my Truck (some things I check). This video goes over some things that I check on my 2nd gen Cummins diesel truck before I were to go on a roadtrip. Some things i have included are the trucks tire pressure/tire rotation, oil change (if needed or oil looks worn), transmission fluid(47re). I also check my 24 valve Cummins coolant level/condition, I check over the trucks front and rear brakes (drums, shoes, pads, rotors). I would typically like to pull the valve cover off the cummins and adjust valve lash on truck, unfortunately this time around I did not have the time to get the valve lash adjusted on the 2nd gen ( check out my video on how to adjust valve lash). I would check the air filter and if you have a reusable/cleanable air filter go ahead and clean it out before going on a road trip. If you don't have a cleanable air filter like the big honkin air filter, maybe grab an extra one to carry with you or just change it out before you leave. I also check all of my ujoints, ball joints, wheel bearings for any slop or play and I go around a grease everything that is able to be greased. I grease my upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, center drag link, track bar, and every ujoint on the truck. It doesn't hurt to change you fuel filter also. If you have the stock fuel filter on one of these 2nd gen 24 valve diesel trucks then definitely change that before a trip and if you have fass 150/airdog lift pump on your truck then changing the fuel filter and water separator can't hurt or at least carry some spare filters in the truck with you while you're on the road. I also like to carry extra oil, coolant, transmission fluid, and brake fluid. Any extra parts I have laying around and can fit in the truck while packing are a good idea also. You never know what can happen while you're out on the road cruising the highway. Anything I may have not gone over or left out, then feel free to add it in the comment section below.
