✅ What You’ll Learn in This Video:
Introduction to Financial Mathematics :
What is Financial Mathematics?
Definition: The application of mathematical principles to financial problems such as loans, savings, investments, and depreciation.
Importance: Helps in understanding real-world financial scenarios like banking, insurance, and business planning.
Key Concepts :
Simple Interest :
Formula:
I=P⋅r⋅t
Where:
I: Interest earned.
P: Principal amount.
r: Rate of interest (per year).
t: Time period (in years).
Example Problem:
Find the simple interest on Rs. 5,000 at 8% per annum for 3 years.
Solution:
I=5000⋅0.08⋅3=1200
Simple Interest = Rs. 1,200.
Compound Interest :
Formula:
A=P(1+r)
t
Where:
A: Total amount after interest.
P: Principal amount.
r: Rate of interest (per compounding period).
t: Number of compounding periods.
Example Problem:
Find the compound interest on Rs. 10,000 at 10% per annum compounded annually for 2 years.
Solution:
Step 1: Calculate total amount:
A=10000(1+0.10)
2
=10000(1.21)=12100
Step 2: Calculate compound interest:
CI=A−P=12100−10000=2100
Compound Interest = Rs. 2,100.
Annuities :
Definition: A series of equal payments made at regular intervals.
Formula for Present Value of an Annuity:
PV=P⋅
r
1−(1+r)
−n
Where:
PV: Present value of the annuity.
P: Payment amount.
r: Rate of interest per period.
n: Number of periods.
Example Problem:
Find the present value of an annuity of Rs. 500 paid annually for 5 years at 6% interest.
Solution:
PV=500⋅
0.06
1−(1+0.06)
−5
=500⋅
0.06
1−0.7473
=500⋅4.2124=2106.2
Present Value = Rs. 2,106.20.
Depreciation :
Straight-Line Method:
Annual Depreciation=
Useful Life
Cost−Salvage Value
