G-Lounge(Ep.8) Director General Jerome Kim of the IVI _ Full Episode

On this week's episode of "G-Lounge", we invited Director General Jerome Kim of the International Vaccine Institute(IVI). Jerome, who was appointed to his position in March, 2105 and will lead IVI for the next 4 years, is also being noticed as the first Korean-American head of the organization.

First, Jerome explains the role and activities of IVI. The first UNDP with its headquarters in Korea focuses on developing vaccines and helping the people of developing countries. One of its biggest accomplishments was the development of an oral cholera vaccine in collaboration with a Korean company. This vaccine was delivered to the people in countries that include Ethiopia and Nepal, especially to the children.

The Director General also tells us that IVI has started studying vaccines that can fight MERS that recently broke out in Korea. He emphasizes that Korea can use the fact that it was exposed to the new virus called MERS as an opportunity to invest in its vaccine research.

Jerome also shares his life as a leader in the study of HIV vaccine before becoming the Director General of IVI and how he came to make the decision of moving to Korea.
