“La Llorona resembles a mother, a lover, but she also looks like Death personified, as well as like the Virgin Mary… I don’t really believe in reincarnation, but I feel the trace of past lives when I sing it. In my concerts, that is a moment where I am not myself anymore. It’s a ritual. When it’s this song’s turn, I’m like: «Alright everybody, I’m leaving you here with this demon, see you again in 6-7 minutes”.

Following previous recent singles Hold And Stay and In Your Hands, Fabrizio Cammarata’s 2016 EP is completed with a haunting exploration of a timeless classic La Llorona. La Llorona ("The Weeping Woman") is a legendary ghost prominent in the folklore of Mexican Culture. The myth sometimes takes aspects of an urban legend and is present all throughout Hispanic culture, even reaching Spain. According to the tradition, La Llorona is the ghost of a woman who lost her children and cries while looking for them in the river, often causing misfortune to those who are near or hear her.
Fabrizio has travelled far and wide with his well-received album Rooms, opening shows for many A-list stars including Ben Harper, Iron & Wine, Patti Smith, Daniel Johnston and Hindi Zahra as well as having impromptu nocturnal jam sessions with Damien Rice and completing many successful tours across Europe. Following this fruitful period Fabrizio is now releasing his new EP In Your Hands.
The soundtrack of Fabrizio’s life has featured the greats such as Bob Dylan, Fabrizio De André and Nick Drake, these sounds and stories mixed in with his own experiences and adventures growing up in the idyllic beauty of Palermo, Sicily. Fabrizio has drawn much creative inspiration from his travels across the globe, especially in Mexico and all around the Mediterranean Sea. His non-musical muses include the photography of Francesca Woodman, the poetry of Garcia Lorca, the work of film-maker Wim Wenders and the butoh dance aesthetics of Kazuo Ohno. All of these inspirations can be felt in the beautifully shot new video.
The concept for the video was developed with award-winning director Manuela Di Pisa and animation designer Valentina Lo Duca, who worked on the drawing of each frame with Indian ink. The video depicts a doomed woman making a journey towards a world of shadows, through phases of pure abstraction.
Fabrizio’s obsession with La Llorona has resulted in the most ambitious of all the young man’s project: the road movie Send You A Song, which he has been working on since 2012, along with Luca Lucchesi, a Palermo-born Berlin-based film director who works as Wim Wenders’s collaborator. The movie is an odyssey through 4 continents in search for this mysterious and haunting figure: La Llorona.
The In Your Hands EP is Fabrizio’s first new musical offerings in five years. He is currently working on an upcoming full album, On The Shadows. His debut album with his band The Second Grace and his later works Rooms and Skint And Golden have been received with unanimous critical praise.
