An Interview With John Roberson - The History of Jaws - With one of the first men that surfed it

An Interview With Jaws Pioneer John Roberson.

I was out Filming on January 15th when I sparked a conversation with a man who was watching his 12 year old grandson and both 14 year old grandsons out tow surfing. Little did I know it was John Roberson. One of the men that surfed Jaws for the first time ever. The other 2 men being John Lemus and John Potterick. 3 Johns, and one paddle out that changed Surfing History. As I was talking to John he was telling me these amazing stories of his upbringing and the history of this magical place called Jaws. I've watched plenty of surf films and edits about Jaws. But hearing it first hand from one of the men that started it and gave it the iconic name was truly an amazing moment. I love the history of surfing and the culture of it. As well as the surfers, These guys surfed jaws because they love surfing, the ocean, and that special connection you get from it. It was also amazing to see Johns 3 grand children age 12,14, and 14 tow surf jaws. It was the first time for the 14 year olds (Justin and Eric) towing jaws. But for the 12 year old.. "baby" Steve they call him. He was no stranger to Jaws. At 10 years old he became the youngest person to ever surf the "best big wave in the world" .. Jaws. I was amazed out how comfortable he was out there. A wave that is so powerful and so difficult to ride; to be 12-14 years old out there charging is a truly special thing. These kids are the next generation of up and comers that are going to change the game at Jaws. And the generation before them looking after these kids is amazing to see as well. Guys like Kai Lenny, Billy Kemper, Albee Layer. The big wave surfing community is amazing, and looks like the future is in good hands.
I Appreciate John for giving the time to talk to me!

Hope you've enjoyed my conversation with John Roberson. And be on watch for his grandkids "baby" Steve, Justin, and Eric!

Also sorry for some of the wind during the conversation! I didn't have my microphone that takes away some of that wind sound..
Thanks for watching!
