New Paradigms in Teaching Culture

“New Paradigms in Teaching Culture,” explores how language teachers are embracing holistic approaches to changing the face of language learning. These holistic approaches vary from one class at Yale which accentuates the commonalities of Arabic and Hebrew as two sister Semitic languages, to Northwestern’s language program re-imaging teaching a class focused on students at the intermediate mid ACTFL level proficiency by focusing on cities central to cultural identities of languages, including Istanbul and its importance to the Turkish language. Finally, one presentation will delve into Open Educational Resources (OER) in the Turkish classroom to identify and integrate OER resources into classes and ensure that they can be used in additional OER publications for the creation and sharing of new teaching materials.
