The Japanese call it Shou-Sugi-Ban (charred or burnt cedar). The process was originally done to fences, exterior walls etc which would be left outside. The process seals & protects the wood from weather, fire, insects and more. It does this because the heat closes the pours of the wood. But it also creates amazing looking home use items. Here we made a bowl which has many uses.
