Solo Canoe (Kayak) Trip to Namakootchie Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park
Solo Canoe (Kayak) Trip to Namakootchie Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park.
This trip actually took place before my trip to Brûle Lake. I thought I had lost the footage but recently found it on an SD card. I want to convey a sense of emersion in my videos with more details of the lakes, portages, hiking and backpacking trails.
The trip starts at Canoe Lake and heads west to the 455 metre portage to Sam Lake. From Sam Lake there is a short portage to Gill Lake or, you can skip the portage and paddle through some mud and over a beaver dam if water levels allow.
From Gill Lake take the 1735 metre portage to Drummer Lake where you are greeted by the Pine Stump Lean-to. It was constructed by members of Camp Ahmek sometime in the 1940's.
Continue west down Drummer Lake and into Little Drummer Lake. From Little Drummer Lake go south where you will find the 790 metre portage to Namakootchie Lake.
Once on Namakootchie Lake head east and you will find the only campsite on the lake. The campsite is small but at least you will also have access to Medge Lake located behind the site.
