**Update** Since many have asked, I made one for my daughter who is 8 (and small for her age) and I cut one piece measuring 7 inches wide x 6 inches tall and cut 2 pieces 5-1/2 wide x 3-3/4 tall. It was constructed the exact same way as this pattern shows. This should fit a small child. For a slightly larger child add 1/4 -1/2 inch to each of these measurements all the way around and construct the same way. Gauge the elastic or ties accordingly.
