Lab Based Treatmentsfor Fatigue and Depression: Measuring Mitochondrial Function

Presented by Dr. Daniel Kalish

Fatigue and depression are commonplace chief complaints that have increased decade after decade from the 1980's to the present day. According to the World Health Organization, depression is now the leading cause of disability worldwide. While focused on brain and neurotransmitter related issues as causative factors, in clinical practice we often find mitochondrial function to play a role in both fatigue and depression cases.

Organic acids testing can open a window into mitochondrial function and reveals several patterns of nutrient deficits that can be addressed using lab based supplement programs. This talk will introduce you to the latest understandings of mitochondrial dysfunction and how amino acids, along with key nutrients such as CoQ10 and magnesium, can play a role in restoration of mitochondrial function and lead to improved clinical outcomes with patients suffering from fatigue and depression.

Learning Objectives:

- Develop an understanding of how to read organic acids tests looking for patterns that reveal mitochondrial issues
- Review the key nutrients required for mitochondrial function and mitochondrial biogenesis
- Understand how to differentiate between nutrient deficits and potential genetic disorders of mitochondrial function
