Doc Watson - Blues Stay Away From Me

Doc Watson, original name Arthel Lane Watson, (born March 1923, Stony Fork, near Deep Gap, North Carolina, USA - died in 2012, Winston-Salem, North Carolina). Doc Watson who was called "a living national treasure" for his virtuoso flat - picking and his repertoire of traditional folk and bluegrass music. Music's compilation album released by Music Mill Entertainment label contains seven albums Doc of his time with United Artists tracks. For nearly 50 years, Doc Watson, who died at 89, was the most illustrious name in traditional American folk music. A superb and original guitarist and a singer of warmth and simplicity, he has put countless musicians on the path to a career in folk music. Probably, no folk artist of his time inspired greater admiration and affection. Watson was born and raised in the small community of Deep Gap in the Blue Ridge Mountains in northwestern North Carolina. He lost his sight as a result of a childhood eye infection and attended Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh. But he was always surrounded by music: his mother, Annie, sang; His father, General Dixon Watson, played the banjo. Several other relatives were musicians, singers or storytellers. Doc himself first learned the harmonica and banjo, then at 13 he started to learn to play the guitar himself on an instrument bought by his father for just a few dollars. No investment in a young musician has ever paid such dividends. In his hands, the use of the guitar in American folk music has expanded radically. Without a doubt, "Blues Stay Away From Me" is the song with the signature of the Delmore Brothers. Reaching number 1 on the Billboard Country & Western chart in January 1950, it is embedded in the American musical canon. A popular song not only in country and bluegrass music, but also in blues, folk, rock and more, "Blues Stay Away From Me" was included in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2007. "Blues Stay Away From Me" has since been recorded by artists in all genres of music, including The Everly Brothers, The Browns, The Band, Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard, Les Paul and Mary Ford, The Louvin Brothers, Johnny Burnette e The Rock and Roll Trio, Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps, The Notting Hillbillies, Merle Travis, Eddie Kirk, Tennessee Ernie, Sleepy LaBeef, Gene Autry, Ray Price, Charlie McCoy, Floyd Cramer, Jeff Beck and The Big Town Playboys, k.d. lang, Wanda Jackson, BB King, Grateful Dead, Mark Knopfler and more. While it has been included many times in bluegrass, by everyone from Raymond Fairchild to Jim & Jesse, there are two bluegrass icons whose renditions of "Blues Stay Away From Me" are by far the most popular. Doc Watson is well-known for his interpretation of the country blues, as were The Delmore Brothers. It should come as no surprise that some of Doc’s most successful blues songs came from the Delmore catalog. Of bluegrass artists, Doc probably recorded more Delmore songs than anyone, save for maybe Doyle Lawson. Songs such as Freight Train Boogie, Gonna Lay Down My Old Guitar, and Deep River Blues were all standards in Doc’s repertoire.Doc’s Blues "Blues Stay Away From Me" is about as bluesy as you can get. Doc kicks things off with the song’s signature guitar intro, and then it turns into a straight Watson blues number. Doc’s powerful guitar and emotional voice lead the way on "Blues Stay Away From Me". The slide guitar and piano are great bluesy compliments to the lonesome harmonica playing on this cut. Doc Watson, a master of flatpicking and fingerstyle guitars, Doc's skills are legendary. His recordings and performances have inspired generations of aspiring guitarists to explore the mysteries of their phenomenal performance. Doc Watson has driven a stake into the heart of the hateful hick stereotype. He was an ambassador for the real old south, a graceful and eloquent gentleman from the south. Doc Watson was simply the best.
