Waheeda Rehman says that Hindi films did not have any definite character sketch to study

Waheeda Rehman says "Mostly we did not get a complete script or a proper character sketch and scenes were also not complete to study them. I can only recall 4 to 5 movies where I got to study the character, scene or script, one being 'Saheb, Biwi Aur Ghulam' as this was based on a novel. Then Khamoshi as well that too because it was already made in Bengali. Mujhe Jeene Do was also a complete script and Guide which makes it 4 films which had a definite character."

Winner of multiple awards, including a National Film Award, Waheeda Rehman is one of the most popular yesteryear actresses of Indian Film Industry. The actress is known for her versatility and was active during the 1950s to 80s. She initially started her career in Telugu film industry. Her first two films like Rojulu Marayi and Jayasimha (1955) were huge blockbusters. She soon shifted to Bombay and under the mentorship of Guru Dutt, she worked hard to place herself as one of the leading ladies of her time. The duo together has given films like CID (1956), Pyaasa (1957), Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959), Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960), and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962) which is now widely regarded as one of the classics of Indian Cinema.

Her pairing with Dev Anand was one of the most celebrated on-screen pairings of her time. Some of their hit films include Solva Saal (1958), Kala Bazar (1960), Baat Ek Raat Ki (1962), and Guide (1965) for which she won the Filmfare Best Actress Award. Soon, she was seen in the critically acclaimed Reshma Aur Shera (1971) and for the same, she won the National Film Award for Best Actress. After the mid-seventies, she started appearing in supporting roles which were central to the storyline. Some of the significant projects during her second innings are Kabhi Kabhie (1976), Trishul (1978), Namak Halaal (1982), Himmatwala (1983), Mashaal (1984), Lamhe (1991), Om Jai Jagadish (2002), Rang De Basanti (2006), and Delhi 6 (2009). Her 2018 projects include Kamal Haasan's bilingual spy thriller film titled Vishwaroopam II in Tamil and Vishwaroop II in Hindi.
