HASP Monthly Program | NOVEMBER 2022
"Why We Need President Ford Today"
Presented by GLEAVES WHITNEY, Executive Director, Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation
Surveys show America is more divided today than at any time since the 1930s. Gerald Ford was a uniter. Do his principles and values still appeal today? Could he be elected in our current political climate? If not, what does this say about the state of American democracy?
Presenter Gleaves Whitney is the executive director of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation in Grand Rapids, Michigan, a post he has held since 2020. Prior to that he was the director of Grand Valley State University’s Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies. Considered one of the country’s foremost presidential scholars, he is the author or editor of 17 books including Testing the Limits: George W. Bush and the Imperial Presidency and American Presidents: Farewell Messages to the Nation.
