CUOMO LOOKS TO SIGN POLICE REFORM BILLS INTO LAW: NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo holds a press conference on the latest coronavirus developments in the state and the ongoing protests against police brutality. Gov. Cuomo said that he is looking forward to signing the law enforcement reform bills the New York State Legislature passed this week into law. He told the press yesterday ‘there is a moment for change and we are going to make change, and we are going to pass legislation this week that I am going to sign that is going to lead the nation in police reform, releasing disciplinary records, what they call 50-A, banning chokeholds, which should have been done a long time ago, and that will be in the state law.’ Some police unions, like the Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York, have come out against these new measures, calling them ‘anti-police.’ Other bills include making it mandatory for officers to use their body cameras and to provide an explanation for when they’re off, as well making false race-based 911 reports a crime.
