Military memorial services

As a military spouse, I regularly attended memorial services for soldiers who had died. Somewhere around #60, my brain could not handle it anymore, but I knew I had to be there physically to support my spouse, and more so, the young people that had died for our country. They deserved the care and remembrance that our military is so good at doing.

Without any manipulation of my thoughts, my brain went to the nursery rhyme, Mary Had a Little Lamb. I have no explanation why, but for the rest of our time, whenever I was at a service, my brain spent it saying the rhyme over, and over again in my head.

It’s been over a decade, and I now wonder what is the story behind the rhyme.
Here’s what I found. “Mary Had a Little Lamb’ is possibly the true story of Mary Elizabeth Sawyer, who in 1815, at age nine, found an abandoned lamb on her family's farm in Sterling, Massachusetts. The lamb was sick, and Mary's father doubted it would survive. Mary convinced him to let her care for the lamb, and with her mother's help, she nursed it back to health” The lamb grew to follow her everywhere.
