TIAN SHAN MARCOPOLO. TROPHY HUNTING best CONSERVATION by Seladang

L'argali est un mouflon géant d'Asie Centrale. La chasse se déroule ici dans les Monts Tian Shan au Kirghizstan entre 3200 et 4200 mètres d'altitude. En référence à l'explorateur vénitien qui a relaté sa présence dans le corridor de Wakhan (Pamirs), il est souvent appelé "marcopolo". Même si le véritable Mouflon de Marco Polo est celui que l'on trouve dans les Pamirs (Ovis ammon poli). La sous-espèce des Tian Shan possède des cornes plus souvent moins longues mais plus épaisses à la base que celui des Tian Shan. Selon les endroits du Tian Shan du Kirghizstan où l'on chasse les chasseurs "collectionneurs" l'appellent Ovis ammon humeï ou Ovis ammon karelini. La chasse de quelques vieux mâles valorise l'espèce auprès des bergers qui nous servent de guide ce qui limite le braconnage. La chasse sportive aux trophées est le meilleur moyen de conservation de la faune sauvage dans ces pays.
