NYC Walking in the Rain - Tropical Storm Fay - Bryant Park, Times Square

I wanted to walk through Tropical Storm Fay but knew the windows would be powerful and that it would include a lot of sideways rain. Unfortunately the DJI Osmo Pocket is very sensitive to water, and its waterproof enclosure does not work well with stabilization because it very actively keeps the camera forward-facing to not get the walls of the enclosure in frame. This was an opportunity to test the DJI Osmo Action, also mounted to my backpack, but with RockSteady (electronic image stabilization) rather than mounted on a gimbal. I thought things were going well, but it randomly stopped filming and one time dropped down to 1080p on its own. Also, I had it connected to my phone via WiFi but it kept dropping connection while recording, and would not reconnect because recording was in progress. I've never had these issues with the DJI Osmo Pocket and the WiFi module. I did some more testing with the Osmo Action at home, and it seemed to be much more stable if I forced it to use 2.4ghz. It would still not automatically reconnect to my phone if i shut the phone screen off, but I was able to reconnect manually without getting an error that it's recording and can't connect. I will keep the Osmo Action, and try it with a wearable gimbal.

I was completely soaked from the chest down, but luckily my North Face backpack managed to keep my electronics dry! Excuse the umbrella in the shot, I was still trying to protect my shoulders as that is where I keep my microphones mounted, and the winds wouldn't always let me keep it out of the shot.
