Flock of PELICANS flying in a V formation! (Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica)
Birds fly in formation for energy conservation and visual assurance. Each bird will fly slightly higher than the one in front to reduce wind resistance. This helps the flock to glide more often and each will take turns being in the front when leading becomes exhausting. Flying in a V shape also helps to keep track of every bird in the group.
