Parrot Tip - Dealing with SCREAMING

Parrot Tip: What can you do if your Parrot is always Screaming.

1.) Remember to do your research before you buy a parrot. Some species are noisy, and you can't stop that.

2.) Why are they SCREAMING? Is there a predator? Are they happy? Are they angry or dominating at another pet, or object, or you? did you leave their dish empty?
* Sometimes just knowing the "WHY" can fix half the problem.

If there's no obvious reason, or they are doing it to be dominating to you - there's a few ways to deal with this....

1.) Always stay calm and don't overreact. Birds LOVE to compete with noise and if you yell at them to "shut up", it will become a game to them to see who can compete the loudest.... trust me... they will win!

2.) Time out cage / spot. Calmly get up, ask them to step up and take them back to their cage for some quiet time. Remember, birds are social and they want to interact with their families...
Time out / isolation is punishment enough.

But the thing with "Time out"... when they are doing the right thing, make sure you REWARD them by bringing them back out and praising them.

3.) Distraction is also a good method. Give them something to do and completely ignore the screaming behaviour. When they realise it gets them nowhere, more often than not, they will stop.
Always check first WHY they are doing the screaming before you do anything.
