Haitian salesmen sells to me in 3 languages in Santo Domingo 🇩🇴
I was in Santo Domingo for a few days before leaving the country after a 3 week tour of the Dominican Republic's south coast and Tanya wanted some souvenirs, so we went souvenir shopping in the main tourist area of Santo Domingo (off camera) where we met John who was a really nice guy. After speaking to him in English, Spanish and French, I decided I'd go back with the camera and make a quick video where he can explain to you guys what sort of souvenirs and gifts you can buy in his shop here in Santo Domingo.
Yes, this video was copyright claimed for the background music in the shop.
As a Haitian, his first and second languages are French and Haitian Creole (Kreyol), but as he's living in the Dominican Republic, Spanish is definitely needed. With so many American tourists visiting Santo Domingo, it's pretty essential that salespeople learn English too, which he has done.
If you're ever in Santo Domingo, go give John a shout at his shop. It's easy to find, right on the main tourist walkway through the colonial zone.
It's been a good few years, coming up to 10 years since I've spoken French, but it seems that I still understood everything John said. I did speak to a guy in French at the Haiti border but I found it really hard to understand his accent. John said that in Haiti, they sometimes mix French and Creole, so it would be hard for me to understand, whereas John spoke standard French to me and his accent was clear. Very intelligent and friendly guy.
There are five languages spoken in this video: English, French, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian.
