I would like to say a thank you to Melitta for sending me a machine to try out. While the company did supply one, it didn’t ask for or receive permission to have any input into this review so you can consider these thoughts on my own.

Unboxing

Let’s Unbox this machine so you can take a closer look at what you're getting.

This is a cone filter automatic drip machine that you can program to make coffee any time… and in truth there's not too much in the box aside from the machine, a borosilicate glass carafe, and a coffee scoop., so let’s open it up…

The machine is made up of two towers; on one side, under the lid you have the filter basket and glass carafe with warming plate, while on the other is the water tank.

The water tank has kind of an interesting two part design. The top portion has a removable glass lid and you'll pour the water in here and it will trickle down into the see-through water reservoir.

That glass reservoir is going to give you a little bit of a light show coming up…

The machine is a little bit larger than your standard coffee maker measuring about 15 x 16 x 6-inches.

I do want to mention a few of the design elements because beautiful design is one of the key features of this coffee maker. In addition to the glass lids there's beautiful spiralized metal and plastic elements as well as a faux wood grain connection piece which joins the two towers.

The carafe is interesting because it is made entirely of glass with no plastic handle.. The glass is called borosilicate, which is essentially the same durable material as Pyrex. Does this prose a problem for serving? I'll get to that momentarily. But the old glass design is certainly minimalist and chic, and the carafe lid has a beautiful flower petal spiral design on it that echos the inside of the filter basket lid.

One of the other very cool features is that the control panel on the bottom of the device is moveable along a track. That means you can use it on either the front, back, or side, and indeed you can turn this machine to face whichever way works best for you and your kitchen and you'll always be able to access the control panel.

I will also note there is a white version of this machine which I am absolutley coveting, but it wasn’t available when I placed my order.

With the machine properly situated in my kitchen, it was time to test out the brewing process.

Making coffee with Melitta Vision 12-cup Luxe Automatic Drip Coffee Maker

While the design is meant to be a stand out, the brewing process is pretty standard. You can use the glass carafe to fill the water tank. The carafe doesn't really have measurement lines on it save for a max fill line. But there are measuring marks on the water tank which should help; both on the visible portion of the tank and inside the closed portion. I will say the inside marks are extremely hard to read.

I found it a little bit weird that the water tank lid comes right off the machine while the coffee side has a flip-top lid. It makes me a little bit paranoid about breaking it.

With the water full you can add a #4 paper cone filter into the basket, and your favourite coffee. If you're making the coffee to order you can just tap the touchscreen control panel’s brewing button.

When enabled, the water tank begins to glow with an orange light as the water is heated and then syphoned out of the water tank and across the bridge then dribbled over the coffee grounds. I really, really love this effect. Not only does it confirm the coffee is brewing but it gives the whole machine a beautiful warm glow.

It takes 10 minutes to brew a full pot of coffee.
