NASA Briefing on Mid-point of Artemis I Moon Mission (Nov. 28, 2022)

NASA will host a news conference from NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston to discuss the status of the uncrewed Artemis I flight test as the Orion spacecraft reaches the mid-point of its Moon mission, and its farthest distance from Earth at nearly 270,000 miles away.

Orion entered a distant lunar orbit on at 4:52 p.m. EST (21:52 UTC) Nov. 25, 2022, where the spacecraft will remain for about a week to test systems in a deep space environment about 40,000 miles above the lunar surface before beginning the journey back to Earth.

Orion launched aboard the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket at 1:47 am EST (6:47 UTC) on Nov. 16 from historic Launch Complex 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.

This mission is the first integrated test of NASA’s deep space exploration systems: the Orion spacecraft, the SLS rocket, and Kennedy Space Center ground systems.
