‘Getting a grant is teamwork’- How our Project Development Officers support our scientists.

TU/e considers it essential to support researchers in their grant applications. In Research Life Cycle Support, the university aims to help its researchers throughout the entire process from idea to impact.

Associate Professor Yali Tang was awarded an ERC personal grant in 2025 for the Electrons to Iron project. She wants to conduct further research into the latest developments in metal electrodeposition, with the primary goal of maximizing the benefits of this green iron-production approach. "Because we know that it works, but not yet enough about how it works exactly," Tang explains. "We want to understand the whole process well, because then we can really drive innovative and sustainable iron production technologies."

Project Development Officer Jean-Paul Krugers supports Tang. Together with his colleagues from the Research Support Office, he arranges a lot for researchers, from research requests to drafting cooperation agreements. They think with you and give researchers the space to do what they do best. But both Tang and Krugers say: "It's teamwork."

De TU/e vindt het belangrijk dat onderzoekers ondersteund worden in het aanvragen van beurzen. Met Research Life Cycle Support wil de universiteit haar onderzoekers ondersteunen in het hele traject van idee naar impact.

Associate professor Yali Tang kreeg in 2025 een ERC-personal grant toegewezen voor het project Electrons to Iron. Ze wil meer onderzoek doen naar de nieuwste metaalelektrodepositiewetenschap, met als hoofddoel deze groene ijzerproductieaanpak optimaal te benutten. “Want we weten wel dat het werkt, maar nog niet genoeg hoe het precies werkt”, legt Tang uit. “We willen het hele proces goed begrijpen, want dan kunnen we echt innovatieve en duurzame ijzerproductietechnologieën stimuleren.”

Tang krijgt ondersteuning van Project Development Officer Jean-Paul Krugers. Samen met zijn collega’s van het Research Support Office regelt hij veel voor onderzoekers. Van onderzoek aanvragen tot het opstellen van samenwerkingsovereenkomsten. Ze denken mee en geven onderzoekers zo de ruimte om te doen waar ze goed in zijn. Maar zeggen zowel Tang als Krugers: “Het is wel teamwork.”
