ALTE and its impact: Membership, Trustees & SIGs

Abstract

The session will provide an overview of the life of the association, particularly taking into account three angles: membership, Trustees and SIGs.
With regard to the first angle, details on what it means to be an ALTE member will be given, by specifying the different kind of possible memberships, how to become a member and the advantages in being part of the ALTE world, as well as the commitment expected.
Considering the second angle, information about the work of the Board of Trustees (BoT) will be offered, also in order to share the implications of the role of Trustee, mainly in terms of responsibilities. BOT is the highest elected body that has legal responsibility for the charity and takes decisions on behalf of the Council of Members.
In relation to the third angle, the session will present a snapshot of the SIGs currently composing the ALTE scenario of groups of colleagues pursuing different issues connected with language testing. The activities carried out within these groups will be highlighted by the correspondent chairs; contextually the difference between project group and discussion group will be explained.
The aforementioned overview would like to raise awareness about what moves concretely behind and in the direction of the declared ALTE overarching areas: Setting Standards, Sustaining Diversity and Maximizing Impact. The main aim is that such awareness can lead to the enlargement of the ALTE family, thanks to further connections, to the welcoming of new institutions, to the growing involvement of current members and to the active engagement of new colleagues.
