The Peleș Castle in Romania is widely considered to be the first castle in Europe to have its own electrical power system.
Completed in 1883, Peleș Castle had its own hydroelectric power plant which provided electric lighting. This was a remarkable technological achievement at the time, making it a modern marvel. The castle also had a central heating system, an elevator, and a central vacuum cleaner.
Peleș Castle features 160 lavishly decorated rooms, showcasing a blend of European art styles. Notable rooms include the Hall of Honor, the Imperial Suite, and the Grand Armory, which houses over 4,000 pieces of weaponry. The castle also boasts a theater hall, concert hall, and various themed salons, such as the Florentine Room, Moorish Salon, and Turkish Parlor This 19th-century castle was commissioned by King Carol I and is considered to be one of the most beautiful castles in Europe.
