The Gemas-Johor Baru Electrified Double-Tracking Project (EDTP) is making steady progress and is scheduled for completion by October 2022.

The RM9.5bil EDTP involves replacing the current single rail line with a double track and laying electrical cabling along a 197km stretch of track between Johor Bahru and the town of Gemas in Negeri Sembilan.

Apart from track upgrading, 12 existing stations between Gemas and Johor Baru will be upgraded as part of the EDTP. In addition, a new railway station will be constructed in Senai, near Johor’s airport, to complement upcoming residential and industrial developments within the area.
Kuala Lumpur – Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR):
The architectural concept designs for seven Kuala Lumpur–Singapore High Speed Rail (KL–SG HSR) stations in Malaysia were recently unveiled. These stations include Bandar Malaysia, Bangi–Putrajaya, Seremban, Melaka, Muar, Batu Pahat and Iskandar Puteri.

Iskandar Puteri is the last station before the border-crossing to the Jurong East station in Singapore. The station’s geometrics are inspired by a handshake, signifying the role of borders as a meeting place between people and culture, and Iskandar Puteri’s place as a regional city for international business.

PROJECT UPDATES:
Kuala Lumpur and Singapore signed a bilateral agreement in December 2016 to build and complete the 350-kilometre railway line by 2026. With an operational speed of 320 kilometres per hour, the non-stop express service will shorten the typical four-hour journey by road between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore to just 90 minutes.
