A Timber Framing Mallet Like No Other!

As I'm preparing for a timber frame structure, I'm starting to gather the tools needed to make it happen and this extra large timber framing mallet was something necessary. Despite it being comically large, it's actually incredibly functional. In Japan, large timber framing mallets of this kind are known as "Commanders". This mallet is designed to knock large timbers and bring joints together where they require a little extra coaxing. It's made entirely from solid ash and weighs in at nearly fifteen pounds. This project was made with a blend of hand and power tools, featuring a power carved handle, and a draw bore mortise and tenon joint to fix the head to the handle. The mortise and tenon utilized an auger bit from Diablo Tools as well as oscillating multi tool blades to make the process quicker and easier than it would be otherwise.
