STUDYING ARCHITECTURE IN 2022

A lecture in benefit of the Architecture Students of Myanmar.

🔺 VIVIANO VILLARREAL-BUERON:
Viviano Villarreal-Buerón holds a Bachelor of architecture from Mexico’s Monterrey TEC ( https://tec.mx/es ) and a Master’s degree in Design Theory and Pedagogy from SCI-Arc in Los Angeles ( https://www.sciarc.edu/ ), where his thesis was awarded the Best Post-Graduate Thesis award for 2019. Prior to establishing his design practice, from 2009-15 Viviano worked in Asia for the Pritzker Prize winning Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas of OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture) from their Hong Kong office branch.

In 2015 Viviano established MASS OPERATIONS: a design studio which understands architecture as a series of operations which when applied to matter generate space. The studio began with an initial string of award-winning interior design projects in Hong Kong followed by its first architecture projects in the north and south of Mexico. ********

• The “Atraviesa” Pavilion / Finalist for Mextropoli´s #19 design competition in Mexico City
• Stair House, in Monterrey Mexico
• Barcode Tulum Building / Honorable Mention at the 2021 Architecture Biennial of Nuevo León
• The Farmacias del Ahorro HQ building / Crystal Calli Award for best work space at the 2021 Architecture Biennial of Nuevo León ( https://bienalnuevoleon.com/ ) and the NOLDI SCHRECK Prize for best Corporate Building in 2022.

Alongside his studio´s work Viviano is also involved in academia; having taught in Asia and Latinoamerica at private and public institutions such as Hong Kong University (HKU), Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), USJ of Macao, TEC de Monterrey, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL), CEDIM and The Universidad Anáhuac in Mexico City. Currently Viviano is an Adjunct Profesor of Architecture at Universidad de Monterrey UDEM ( https://www.udem.edu.mx/es )
