One of Australia's biggest insurers sued over alleged false discounts | The Business | ABC News

Australia's corporate watchdog ASIC has launched legal proceedings against QBE, claiming the insurance giant knowingly offered loyalty discounts that it could not pass on.
In almost 500,000 renewal letters, customers were promised up to 60 per cent off.
But it's alleged the insurer's systems had limits that wouldn't allow such discounts for many customers.
ASIC Deputy Chair Sarah Court says the corporate watchdog is taking QBE to court because the insurer knew some pricing mechanisms were preventing these customers from getting the full discounts they were promised.
