Coronavirus outbreak: Ontario announces regional approach to Stage 2 of Phase 2 of reopening | FULL

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced a regional approach to Stage 2 of Phase 2 of reopening the province amid the coronavirus pandemic on Monday.

As of June 12, Ontarians will be allowed to gather in groups of 10 — up from the previous five — as well as places of worship will be allowed to reopen, however with physical distancing measures in place and allowing no more than 30 per cent capacity. The City of Toronto and areas including Hamilton and Niagara, among others, were not yet deemed safe enough to reopen further for Friday.

Ford made the announcement alongside ministers Christine Elliott, Rod Phillips, Vic Fedeli and Monte McNaughton.

The decision on which locations were allowed to enter Phase 2 were made in consultation with Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams and local health officials.

The province has a total of 30,860 COVID-19 cases and 2,450 deaths as of Monday.
