5 Days Winter Bushcraft Trip - Making Snowshoes - Howling Wolves - Remote Cabin Life
#bushcraft #camping #survival #winter
A trip to the North of Sweden. Had a great time with crafting snowshoes that worked very well in the deep snow. I have mentioned before I do not like a lot of cordage used for lashing things. So my idea behind the standard transom knot with the added lashings was to have the most secure square lashing with the least amount of cordage. Had no problem with it even if I didn't walk very far this time. Securing something that will move around under a work load with only a strip of 20 cm cordage is a challenge.
Spent a night in extreme cold sleeping under the stars in a snow shelter. Many years ago I had this idea about being out in the middle of nowhere in winter. Being alone up in the north and hear wolves at night from my campfire. It's evolved into some kind of goal.. like a picture in my mind that describes the perfect wilderness experience. This time it happened. Of course the picture was not the same as real life. A bit eerie. When you are actually there feeling the cold, no cell signal, totally exposed amongst wild predators, have remains of raw meat in camp, it's hard to relax. Your imagination starts working in a different way :) Things are so easy when imagined from an armchair. Something to think about.
Also lived the old time life in a remote cabin. Cutting wood and carrying water from a natural spring, no electricity. A hard but rewarding existence. And the best part: Absolute silence. No man made sounds. I seldom get reminded these days that this kind of silence is like a beautiful sound in itself when you don't even hear the occasional distant airplane. Normally the first couple of days when out in the woods I'm a bit anxious. But on the third day I usually find peace. Spent a full day on the ice fishing, and just enjoyed being in the present.
Thanks for Watching!
