Filmmaker Conversation Questlove's Summer of Soul at the Big Eddy Film Festival

In his acclaimed debut as a filmmaker, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson presents a powerful and transporting documentary, SUMMER OF SOUL—part music film, part historical record created around an epic event that celebrated Black history, culture and fashion.

Producers David Dinerstein and Robert Fyvolent discuss the project with the Big Eddy Film Festival's Greg Triggs.

In celebration of the Big Eddy Film Festival’s 10th Anniversary (September 30 – October 3), the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance will present a series of live Big Eddy Film Festival events throughout 2021. We’ll kick off the summer on Thursday, July 1 with an exciting free outdoor screening of the new film SUMMER OF SOUL, presented in partnership with Bethel Woods Center for the Arts at their outdoor Terrace Stage.

Over the course of six weeks in the summer of 1969, just one hundred miles south of Woodstock, The Harlem Cultural Festival was filmed in Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park). The footage was never seen and largely forgotten–until now.
